If in doubt you can always test an alarm to see which number your device calls you from.  If there are any questions please contact our support team via in-App help message or using support@monimoto.com

  • How is Cycloop different from other trackers?
    • DIY system. Almost no technical knowledge is required from you! You will not need to do any wiring, or have any special tools. All you need to do is setup your device using the Monimoto app and attach it to your bike.
    • You do not need to change batteries every 2 weeks. Cycloop's rechargeable batteries last up to 12 months without the side LED's on, and up to 3 months with side LED's on for an average 2 hour daily drive. Key Fob battery lasts up to 12 months.
    • Cycloop has an international SIM card inside that works in many countries.
    • Cycloop doesn't drain your e-bike's battery. It is not connected to any external power supply.
    • Device calls your mobile phone in one minute to notify you of unauthorized bike use.  You will be notified immediately, compared to other trackers that just send text messages or emails, which nowadays can be left ignored. A phone call is rarely left unanswered!
  • Will Cycloop Sound an Alarm?

Cycloop will only notify you that your bicycle is moving by giving you a call and sending you a push notification from the app (not an SMS message). It will not sound an alarm, block any mechanical parts of your bicycle, or give itself away in any other way.

  • How to get a location of Cycloop at any given time?

It is not possible to see the location of Cycloop at any given time. Cycloop sleeps all the time and can only send locations when it is in Alarm mode.

The operation time will vary depending on usage of the device. Each full charge will give a maximum 1500 locations with LED sidelights on for a daily 2 hr. ride.

However if enabled, Cycloop can send its location with the regular update once every 24 hours. This feature reduces battery lifetime and by default is disabled.

    Additional feature 'Active Tracking':

If your bike was stolen with a Key Fob, you can go to Settings and press 'Start Active Tracking'. This will unpair all Key Fobs with the next regular update and allow the device to alarm even if a Key Fob is nearby. Depending on how much time is left until your next regular update, it can take between 5 minutes and 24 hours with the default setting. For example, if your next regular update is in 10 days, the device will delete the Key Fob and enter an Alarm state then.

  • Can I use Cycloop for real time tracking?

Cycloop is not a ‘real time’ tracking device. It does not have a constant connection with the LTE-M network and is not constantly sending its location. Cycloop connects to the LTE-M network and sends locations only when Alarm mode is triggered. This helps to considerably save battery life.

Less Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Cycloop waterproof?

Cycloop meets IP65 standards, meaning it is protected from rain, dust and against low-pressure water jets, such as a faucet. That should be more than enough for everyday use.

  • How long will Cycloop work in Alarm mode?

Depends on how much battery was left before the Alarm started working, but with a fully charged battery you can expect up to 1500 locations at 5 min intervals or several days of continuous tracking.  Keep in mind the tracker only sends locations constantly when it is detecting movement.  If no movement is detected for 30 min. then Cycloop sends one last location of it's position before returning to Armed mode and is prepared to alarm again once new movement is detected.

  • Can I lend my Cycloop-equipped bike to a friend?

You can do that. You have several options here:

    1. If you want to lend your bicycle and want it to remain protected, give your Cycloop-equipped bicycle and the Cycloop Key Fob to a friend. This way the bicycle remains protected the same way as if you were riding your own bicycle.  If an alarm is activated, you will receive a call and push notifications to your phone.

    2. If you only give your Cycloop-equipped bicycle to a friend without a Key Fob - you can put Cycloop to snooze from 1-24 hours. However, this way it will not remain protected for the time you have set it to snooze as it will not register any movement or start the alarm. After the snooze period passes, the device will automatically 'wakeup' and return to its Armed state.

    3. If you give your Cycloop-equipped bicycle to a friend without the Key Fob, you will constantly get location updates while the bicycle is on the move. Keep in mind the battery will be consumed in just a few days this way, depending on the previous battery level and whether the bicycle is moving or not.

How does Cycloop work?

  • Armed mode / Disarmed mode / Alarm mode

Cycloop has three main modes: Armed, Disarmed and Alarm.

    ARMED MODE

Once you go through the App setup and successfully configure your device – you should see a green “ARMED” sign. This means Cycloop is ready to detect any type of movement and notify you if the Key Fob is not around. You do not need to activate Cycloop in any other way.

    RIDING A BICYCLE
Cycloop is DISARMED if the owner has a Key Fob while riding the bike.

    ALARM MODE
When Cycloop senses any type of motion, movement or vibration, the first thing it does is a Key Fob check. If the Key Fob is not found, the device will enter Alarm mode.

How to setup and test Cycloop

  • How to trigger the alarm? It's not starting for me.

To trigger the alarm in Cycloop, you need to make sure the following conditions are fulfilled:

    1. Bluetooth is OFF on your phone.

    2. The Key Fob is not detected by the tracker. This can be achieved in two ways - remove the battery from the Key Fob or make sure it is far enough from Cycloop device (at least 50 meters in open area) or keep it in an RFID signal blocking pouch/box.

    3. Depending on the sensitivity level that you have chosen in the settings, you need to shake/move/tilt your bicycle for several seconds for the alarm to start.

If you get a call, but see no Alarm or location on the app, it could be the Key Fob was found or the app connected over Bluetooth to the tracker right after the call, stopping the alarm.

NOTE: Any app connection over Bluetooth returns device to Disarmed mode. To receive push notifications, the app must be closed. Otherwise, you have to refresh home screen manually.

Monimoto and your phone connectivity

  • Does Cycloop call ring when I have a silent mode on?

By default - no, it does not. But, you can set it up manually:

    For Android:

    Go to the ‘Phone’ app
    Go to the ‘Contacts’ section
    Select Cycloop number
Tap the ‘Star’ in the top right hand corner

Once you have your contact starred, you now need to edit your ‘Do not disturb’ settings:

Open the ‘Settings’ on your phone
Select ‘Set Do Not Disturb rules’
In the ‘Call’ section select ‘From starred contacts only’
Now when you go to bed at night, you need to make sure you enable ‘Do not disturb’.

    For iOS:

    Go to the ‘Phone’ app
    Go to the ‘Contacts’ section
    Select Cycloop number.
Select ‘Add to Favorites’ from bottom menu

Once you have your contacts add to Favorites, you now need to edit your ‘Do not disturb’ settings

Open the ‘Settings’ on your phone
    Select ‘Set Do Not Disturb’
Under the ‘Allow Calls From’ section, select ‘Favorites’

Now when you go to bed at night, you need to make sure you enable ‘Do not disturb’.

  • Will Cycloop work with my smartphone?

Cycloop can be used with iOS 14 or Android 8.0 phones and all subsequent operating systems. Android phones must have access to the Google play store.

Your smartphone must also have Bluetooth 4.0+ (BLE) functionality, as the connection between your phone and Cycloop uses this technology.

    Blacklisted phones:

All Android phones without Google Play, such as Huawei P40, Huawei P40 Pro, Huawei P40 Lite

    Huawei P8 lite

    BLU Vivo 6

    NEXUS 6

    Xperia XZ1

  • Can I receive notifications to multiple phones?

Yes, that is possible. You can receive push notifications (but not calls) to as many phones as you like.

All you need to do is simply login with the same account (your phone number or email that you used to setup Cycloop for the first time is your account ID).

IMPORTANT: Phone calls will only be received to the original phone number that was used to setup Monimoto, or as set in settings!

  • Can I use multiple devices with a single phone?

Yes! You can have as many devices as you want, and all of them can be paired with the same smartphone. All of your devices will appear in one list in the Monimoto app (see picture below). If you want to add another device, simply click on Add Monimoto/Cycloop button or on the red button with a white cross (for Androids) and start the pairing procedure.

  • My phone does not have Google services, is there a workaround?

    No.

Cycloop is compatible only with phones that have Google Services. At the moment there is no workaround or another way to download Monimoto app.

Here are some of the phones that do not have Google services:

    Huawei Mate 30

    Huawei Mate 30 Pro

    Huawei P40

    Huawei P40 Pro

    Huawei P40 Pro Plus

    Huawei P40 Lite

    Huawei Y6p

    Huawei Y8p

    Huawei Y7p

    Huawei Nova 7i

    Huawei Nova 7 SE

    Huawei Enjoy Z 5G

    Huawei Matepad T8

    Huawei Matepad Pro 5G

  • I changed my smartphone. What do I need to do to make sure Cycloop works?

You simply have to download the Monimoto app on your new phone and log in using the same log in method which you used when you first created your account:

Sign-in with Phone  (this requires you to have access to the phone number you used when you first created your account due to SMS short code verification)
    Sign-in with Google
    Sign-in with Apple

Make sure you use the same method as your original Sign-in otherwise it will create a separate account.  Each Sign-in method creates separate accounts from each other.

Troubleshooting

  • I received "Signal lost" notification

If you receive a push notification that looks like this:

    IMG_6312.jpg

This means that Cycloop periodic check did not go as expected - our server did not receive a regular update from your device. It mainly happens due to cellular connectivity issues.

    Main reasons:

    • A temporary cellular or internet connection error;
    • At the moment of communication, Cycloop equipped bicycle was parked in the area without cellular network, e.g., underground garage;
    • Cycloop battery is almost empty;
    • SIM card has no credit or SIM is blocked.

What you can do if this happens:

    • Check if bicycle is where it is supposed to be.
    • Wait until next day. Usually next communication is successful. (regular ping interval must be set to 1 day in the settings section - it is a default setting).
    • Check if cellular signal is strong enough where you keep your bicycle. It might be worth moving your bicycle.
    • Rarely, and depending on where you put the device, you might have to slightly change the device location in your bike.
    • Check if the SIM is not deactivated. Down below you can see how it looks if our SIM is deactivated.

    X1a88pbN3SZB_7Z6UqzSrDSyVMQNvKfi9A.jpg
If you see this sign, you simply need to go to Settings, tap on SIM and top up.

    mceclip1.png

Here is how the SIM looks when it has been topped up:

    mceclip2.png

Additionally, if everything is fine with the card, once you connect to your device through the app by clicking Connect, you can check the status of your battery. If battery is empty, you will see that after the connection. It can be that the batteries are too low to send the battery level notification to Cloud via cellular network.

If you always keep your bike at the same location, and only sometimes get this notification (but never more than 2 times in a row) - you should not worry since during the actual theft the device would start moving and start getting cellular signal anyway. However, if you see this notification for 3 days in a row - start looking for a reason of why that is happening.

  • I am getting false alarms

If you are getting false alarms:

    1. First, check if you are riding together with Key Fob in your pocket.

    2. Check if Key Fob battery is full. Simply connect to your device from Settings tab and go to Key Fobs. Try to refresh several times for it to update. You should see at least one Key Fob connected. Check if battery is OK and if connection shows any level. If you have your Key Fob in your pocket and you are sitting on your bike, the reliable connection should be more than 20%. Try to put your Key Fob in to the other pocket and make sure that there are no metal things nearby that are blocking the signal.

  • How to send a Diagnostic file to Cycloop/Monimoto support team?

If you were asked you to send a Diagnostic to Developers, in order to help address an issue, follow these steps:

Open Monimoto app and connect to Cycloop device via Bluetooth. To connect, you have to be close to the device (max 5 meters).

    Screenshot_2020-12-23-11-15-07-997_com.monimoto.android.jpg

You will see expanded Settings Menu:

    MM.jpg

Tap on Send Diagnostic to Developers. Your diagnostic files will be sent to our support team!

  • The device does not go into Armed mode after Snooze and remains in Alarm

After the Snooze period is over, the device will try to update the home screen to go to Ready mode. If at that time the device faces a poor coverage of the cellular network, an error may occur and the status of the device will remain in Snooze mode.

This means that the device has returned to Armed mode, but is still displaying the previous status.
The status icon will be updated with the next alarm or periodic check.

  • I am not getting location by SMS text message

Cycloop does not send locations by SMS text message, it is optimized to work with mobile data sending push notifications in case of alarm.

  • What languages are your app and notifications available in?

Currently all the push notifications and events are available in English, Italian, French, Spanish, Japanese and German. More languages will be introduced in the future.

The language in the App is determined by the language set on your phone, if it is one of the supported languages then the App will appear in the same language.  If your phone is set in an unsupported language then the App will appear by default in English.

  • My Cycloop fails to pair with the app

    Android

When you go through the setup wizard in the app - you should see "Choose Your Cycloop" tab. You should see your the serial number of your device, as shown on the label. Tap the red + sign and let the device do the rest.

    ra6XHMlHLbw_Cka9JpeFYZAHtbCCSgJY7g.png

Double check if the the battery is charged. If you do not see your Cycloop device on list, tap rescan. If needed, perform that several times. If you see an error message at the bottom, the first thing to do is to restart the Bluetooth on your phone (switch it off and back on), and try to pair again.

Additionally, if you do not see the device in the "Choose Your Cycloop" tab, try to clean cache and data:

    1. Open Settings menu in your phone.

    2. Find Monimoto App in the menu, then locate the app.

    3. Tap on Storage and clear the data.

    Screenshot_2021-02-25-16-08-16-247_com.miui.securitycenter.jpgScreenshot_2021-02-25-16-08-20-354_com.miui.securitycenter.jpg

    iPhone/iOS
If you are unable to setup the tracker in the App setup process, check your phone's bluetooth list to make sure any devices labelled mm.XXXXXXXXXXXX are unpaired and forgotten using the little 'i' button.  Then try the App setup process again.

Bluetooth

  • Do you need to keep Bluetooth turned off on your phone?

No, you do not need to have your Bluetooth turned off.

We understand that many of our users need to have it on, as they use multiple devices that connect to their phone via Bluetooth. Our app does not keep a constant connection with the device via Bluetooth and disconnects automatically, so it does not interfere with system functionality and performance.

We only ask you to turn it off if you are testing an alarm with your device and are close by.

  • I cannot connect to paired Cycloop via Bluetooth

Remember - you only need to connect via Bluetooth if you want to change settings. Device does not need a constant Bluetooth connection and once paired communicates with the Key Fob or Cloud server on a daily basis.

If you cannot connect to paired Cycloop from Settings tab, first make sure that you are connecting within a reliable Bluetooth range, e.g. 1-5 meters from the device.

Note: If you had false alarms for a prolonged amount time and received a lot of location updates, your battery could be empty and that could cause the issue.

    Android

If your Cycloop has already been paired with your phone before and now you are trying to connect to it via Bluetooth, please make sure that Bluetooth is turned ON and that the Bluetooth logo is visible in the main toolbar at the top right corner.  Also make sure location services is enabled.

If you see an error message at the bottom, the general rule of thumb is to restart the Bluetooth on your phone by switching it off and back on, and try to connect again. Some phones need multiple attempts to connect.

    timeout.jpg

Another possible reason - it might be that your Cycloop has been restored to its default parameters.

Delete your device from the device list

    s-KuhNtkk3k71jaQthVTRxaaENFZpyoK-g.png

Once you delete it, pair the device as you did the first time.

Your Account

  • My phone number changed - what do I need to do?

If you changed your number but still have the phone with the old phone number, follow these steps:

    1. Go to device settings and unpair Cycloop device from your phone.

    MM.jpg

    2. Then tap 'Delete My Account'. This will delete your account from Monimoto servers.

    Screenshot_2021-10-06-10-37-42-463_com.monimoto.android.jpg

    3. Now go through the Cycloop setup wizard to pair it with your new account as you did the very first time.

If you changed your number but you no longer have the phone with the old phone number, contact our support team.

  • How to change owner of Cycloop?

All you need to do is unpair the device in the Settings tab of your Monimoto app (app > select the device > settings > connect > unpair).  Then it will be free for setup to a new account/owner.

If by any chance you no longer have your phone and cannot unpair your device from the app, please contact our customer support and we will manually unpair it. Then you will only need to reset your device to default settings.

  • I unpaired Cycloop from my phone

    Nothing to worry about!

If you accidentally unpaired your Cycloop from your phone, simply start pairing process in the app again and make sure your phone, cycloop, and keyfob are close together (bluetooth range).

Key Fob

  • Cycloop Key Fob

The Key Fob is a small device that comes with Cycloop. When the Fey Fob is not present near the device, any sufficient movement or vibration activates Alarm mode in Cycloop.

You can add up to 3 Key Fobs to each Cycloop device. If you happen to have more than one Cycloop, the same Key Fob can be used with multiple devices.

Important! Cycloop Key Fob is not supposed to be used as a key chain and should be kept separate from your other keys. This way if your keys are stolen or lost, you will not need to fear your bicycle will be stolen without any notifications.

If you have a second generation Key Fob make sure to keep it away from water as it is not waterproof. It looks like this:

    RfVuO95Zxqc-60qsvyAPiDgkFa_3MtC2jw.png

Third generation Key Fobs meets IP65 standards, meaning they are protected from dust and against low-pressure water jets, such as a faucet/short dip.  Keep in mind IP65 is NOT rated for complete submersion in water over extended periods of time.  3rd generation Key Fobs look like this:

    9ScogkJKlP2PVS5vA9SrbF6imGgPAhVagw.png

Fourth generation Key Fob is actually the one that comes with the Cycloop.
They meet IP65 standards, meaning they are protected from dust and against low-pressure water jets, such as a faucet/short dip.  Keep in mind IP65 is NOT rated for complete submersion in water over extended periods of time.  4th generation Key Fobs look like this:

              Key4.png

    Tip!

If you keep your vehicle close to your house, less than 30 meters away (100 ft) - make sure the Key Fob and device do not maintain a Bluetooth connection with each other. If they do - the alarm will not start until the bike/device is taken outside of Key Fob range.

If your bike is kept outside and the Key Fob is inside, the reception zone can vary from few meters to 30 meters (100 ft), depending on walls and other objects. Only in rare occasions can the Key Fob connect to the device at more than 15 meters (50 ft) distance, as walls or windows usually limit radio signal range.

You can change the signal range the Key Fob will be detected by the tracker in App - Settings - Connect (phone/tracker close by) - Key Fobs - Reduce Key Fob signal range - use the slider to change from min. to max. by default it is set at maximum range.

    How to test?

Leave the Fey Fob at home where you usually keep it. Go to your bike and App -> Settings -> Connect -> Key Fobs menu and check if the Key Fob shows any signal. Refresh by swiping down if needed.

If the connection is still present - we suggest finding a different place at home to keep your Key Fob or to place your Key Fob in a signal blocking pouch/metal box.

  • Two Cycloop devices - one Key Fob?

You can pair one Key Fob to as many Cycloop devices as you like without any issues.

However keep in mind one Key Fob can only connect to one Cycloop at a time, so if you have 2 Cycloop devices/bicycles, and you lend one bicycle to a friend while you ride the other one - one of the Cycloops will constantly be in alarm while the other will not.

  • Cycloop connects to the Key Fob from home

If you keep your bicycle near your home, within 50 meters (160 ft) - make sure the Key Fob and device do not keep a Bluetooth connection between them. If they do then the alarm will not start until the bicycle is out of connection range.

If your bicycle is outside and the Key Fob is inside, the connection range can vary from a few meters to 30 meters (100 ft) as walls and other objects can impact connectivity.

Luckily the Key Fob range can now be reduced.  This will allow you to make sure the Monimoto and Key Fob are not connected when you park your bicycle near your home or office.

To reduce Key Fob signal range, park your bicycle, put your Key Fob in the place where you usually keep it.

Go to Settings -> Connect -> Key Fobs and slightly reduce the distance.

The Key Fob will restart and you will be able to see if the Key Fob still connects. If it still connects, reduce the range again until the Cycloop device is no longer linked to the Key Fob.

NoteReducing the distance increases the chances of a false alarm being triggered while riding your bicycle.

Batteries

  • What type of battery does Cycloop use, what kind of battery do I need for a Key Fob?

Cycloop comes with a 3.7V Li-Polymer (1930mAh) rechargeable battery.  This battery is not meant to be replaced, do not attempt to disassemble Cycloop and remove the battery.

The Cycloop Key Fob is powered by a 3V Lithium CR2032 battery. These coin batteries are easily found in most convenience stores or photo equipment stores.

  • What affects battery life? How can I save battery power?

    Cycloop

Alarm Mode is the main factor that drains the battery. With this in mind, you don't want to have many false alarms. Avoid moving the Cycloop when the Key Fob is away.

IMPORTANT: If you decide to enable "Show location on Regular Status Update", keep in mind this will also reduce battery life.  In general locations sent from the device are what drain the battery the most whether in alarm mode or with the regular update.

If in constant alarm mode and in-motion the unit will attempt to send a location every 5 minutes and this will drain the batteries in 1 week.  In 'Live tracking' mode, every 10 minutes consumes 1% of battery. Use this mode only when you want more frequent locations from your device when it has been stolen.

  • How do I know if my Cycloop's battery is empty?

You should be notified by a push notification when Cycloop battery level falls below 20%.  Do not wait until they are completely empty and charge it when the first or second notification is received.

In general, Cycloop's battery can last up to a year on a single charge if the side LED lights are not on.  If the side LED lights are on with an average 2 hour daily ride then the battery will last up to 3 months on a single charge.
If your Cycloop receives a lot of alarms and sends many locations then your battery life might be 3-4 months shorter.

  • Why I did not receive Cycloop low battery notifications?

    Main reasons:

    • A temporary cellular network or internet error preventing the device from updating low battery status to App;
    • At the moment of regular update the Cycloop equipped vehicle was parked in an area without cellular network, for example: building/garage/workshop/underground/parking structure;
    • SIM card has no credit or SIM is blocked;
    • Cycloop battery died unexpectedly.

Also make sure you have allowed the Monimoto App to send push notifications in your phone's settings, if notifications are not allowed for the App then of course you will not receive any low battery notification from Cycloop.

  • Can I charge Cycloop batteries?

Yes. It contains a rechargeable Lithium battery inside.
You have to plug your USB-C charging cable into the charging port and wait for it to fully charge.
